Sherry Rose Martha Schwenn was born on April 27, 1949, at the family home in Roberts County, SD. She was the daughter of Vernon and Helen (Grensing) Schwenn. Sherry grew up on the family farm and attended school in Milbank. She graduated from Milbank High School with the Class of 1967. While in high school, Sherry was very active with music and played trumpet. She was a member of the National Honor Society. She continued her education and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology/History in 1971, at Asbury College in Wilmore, KY.
Sherry worked in Minneapolis for the Billy Graham Organization and later for Carlson Companies. She worked as a property manager and later worked as a real estate broker. Sherry loved to drive and worked as a school bus driver, motor coach driver, and drove RVs to dealerships for delivery. Her final form of employment was providing professional care for homebound residents who needed personal and in-house assistance.
Sherry’s Christian faith was significantly important to her. As a young girl she knelt one evening at the side of her bed to pray. That evening in her prayer she asked Jesus Christ to come into her life to be her savior and Lord. That prayer was the beginning of a life-long personal relationship between Sherry and her God. She organized the Rose of Sharon Ministry. The purpose of the ministry was to provide spiritual encouragement for women in their daily walk with God.
Sherry loved her family, especially her nieces and nephews. She showed their pictures to anyone who would look!
Left to cherish her memory are her five siblings: Beverly (Vincent) Dohrer of Rochester, MN; Rev. Dr. DeVern (Joan) Schwenn of Milbank, SD; Rev. Ivan (Lil) Schwenn of Tucson, AZ; Lowell (Sharon) Schwenn of Corona, SD; and Ruth (special friend Raleigh Marvle) Alston of Rockford, MN; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents.
