Obituary

Merwyn "Merv" Redfield, age 83, of Ortonville, MN,  passed away on May 14, 2022, in Milbank.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank. Rev. David Tonn will officiate and burial will be at a later date in Mound Cemetery in Ortonville, MN. The service will be livestreamed and recorded and viewable below this obituary. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Merwyn Gene Redfield was born on June 6, 1938, in Artichoke Township, Big Stone County, Minnesota. He was the son of Henry and Miranda (Mathison) Redfield. Merv grew up in Big Stone County and attended country school through the eighth grade. He continued his education at Ortonville High School, graduating in 1956.

Merv was united in marriage with Janice Teske. They were blessed with four children: Jodi, Bruce, Russ, and Loren. Merv farmed in the Clinton area for 38 years. He raised cattle, pigs, and chickens. He enjoyed buying and selling at area auctions. He loved to play cards, snowmobile, and participated in a pool league. He had a kind heart; he loved people and loved to tell jokes. He adored his grandchildren.

If you heard him asking “I don’t know why?” the grandchildren would answer, “Because I love you!” and Merv would give them one dollar! Merv was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria, MN.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jan Redfield of Ortonville, MN; his children: Jodi (Dan) Nickel of St. Michael, MN; Bruce (Kristi) Redfield of Big Stone City, SD; Russ (Shelley) Redfield on Clinton, MN; ad Loren (Zelda) Redfield on Alexandria, MN; seven grandchildren: Melanie Stegner, Slater Redfield, ShaRaye Redfield, Danny Redfield, AJ Karsky, Trevor Karsky, and Andrew Karsky; two step-grandchildren: Cameron Larson and Wheeler Larson; 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Arlene (Bill) Hollar of Floyd, IA; Patsy Redfield of Eden Prairie, MN; one brother, DeWayne (Sharen) Redfield on Graceville, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Henry and Miranda; two grandchildren: Keelan and Jennalee; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Albert and Mildred Teske; two brothers-in-law: Gary (Nadine) Teske and Roland (Linda) Teske.
