Wava Butler

Wava Butler, age 94 of Milbank died on January 31, 2020, at St. William’s Care Center.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 4, at 10:30 a.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank.  Rev. Dr. DeVern Schwenn will officiate and burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Monday at Mundwiler Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue on Tuesday, one hour prior to the service.  Music will be provided by Tim Mundwiler.

Wava Mae Butler was born on May 27, 1925, in Dresden, OH.  She was the daughter of Ernest and Martha (Loyd) Bell.  Wava attended school in Dresden and graduated with the Jefferson High School Class of 1943.  She was a member of the Methodist church in Dresden.

Following her education, Wava was employed with Ohio Bell Telephone Company in Zanesville, OH.  She was united in marriage with William Butler of Zanesville on September 24, 1946.  They were married at Portsmouth, New Hampshire.  They were blessed with 55 years together.

After William was discharged from the Navy, his work took them to many different places throughout the United States.  While living in Fairbanks, Alaska, Wava worked for Alaska Communications.  She also worked for Northwestern Bell in Sioux Falls, SD.  They eventually moved and settled on Big Stone Lake in 1972.  William passed away on May 7, 2001.

Wava moved into Milbank and has since resided.  She was a faithful member of Central United Methodist Church.  She was a life member of Wives of U.S. Submarine, WWII.  She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 229, Big Stone City, SD.

Wava is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Bill and Susan Butler of Arlington, SD; four grandchildren: Molly (Charlie) Weston of Bennington, NE; James (Cynthia) Butler of Aurora, SD; Courtney (Ashley) Brockhoft of Harrisburg, SD; and Kelly (Jacob) Bunde of Lyons, SD; five great-grandchildren: Machele, Baron, Emalie, Liam, and Bohaven.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother and sister-in-law.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to "It Only Takes A Spark" Cancer Walk.
