Sylvester "Sonny" Bernard Kaiser was born on May 6, 1944, in Milbank, SD, to Herbert William and Hildegard Marie (Schuelke) Kaiser. Sonny was raised and attended school in Big Stone City; he began working on the family farm at a young age. He worked in the Twin Cities beginning in 1964, until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1967. Sonny served in the 7th medical brigade in Germany.

After his honorable discharge from the army, he worked briefly for Rausch Brothers, and then worked in the construction of the Big Stone Power Plant. Sonny was employed mostly as a truck driver: as an owner/operator, driving for Hedge and Herberg, Ronglien Construction and RJB.

Sonny was a life-long member, was baptized and confirmed, and served as an usher, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Big Stone City. He was a member of the Milbank VFW, the Milbank-Sisseton Chapter 19 DAV, and was a lifetime member of the Big Stone American Legion. He served as a color guard presenting military honors for fellow veteran’s funerals. Sonny was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army.

Sonny enjoyed restoring and driving his Allis-Chalmers tractors. He attended local threshing shows with his friends whenever he could. His grandchildren were his greatest joy.

Sonny Kaiser is survived by his children: Will (Deidra) Kaiser, of Sioux Falls, SD; Joey (Lexus Harper) Kaiser of Big Stone City, SD; Ashley Kaiser of Goodwin, SD; grandchildren: Jaina Greene, Rowan Kaiser, Charleigh Kaiser, Jaxson “Bubba” Johnson; sisters: Mary Wanner, of Aberdeen, SD; Jenny Malsom, of Mina, SD; Pat Kaiser, of Big Stone City, SD; brother, Jerome (Andrea) Kaiser, of Big Stone City, SD.
