Robert Weber

Robert “Bob” Weber, age 95, of Clear Lake, SD, passed away on September 24, 2021, at St. William’s Care Center in Milbank.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Clear Lake. Father Christopher Hughes will celebrate the Mass. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a prayer vigil at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, one hour prior to the Mass. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Bob’s grandchildren: Marcus Weber, Thad Weber, Trevor Weber, Jason Spartz, Jack Spartz, and Jedediah Spartz. Honorary bearers will be the Knights of Columbus and the South Dakota State Legislators.

Robert Roy Weber was born on November 19, 1925, in Watertown, SD. He was the son of John Henry and Rosa (Raml) Weber. Bob was united in marriage with Shirley V. Roe on June 3, 1948, at Holy Rosary Church in Kranzburg, SD. Together, Bob and Shirley purchased at farm south of Strandburg, SD, and raised Holstein dairy cattle and registered Suffolk sheep. Bob exhibited his cows and sheep at many area fairs.

Bob loved his family and enjoyed family reunions. In his youth he enjoyed hunting and trapping, fishing, and playing and umpiring games. He was involved in his community where he served on the Georgia and later Portland Township Boards, Strandburg School Board, and was a 4-H leader. Bob was a church board member of Annunciation Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus.

In 1972, Bob was elected to the South Dakota House of Representatives where he served for 28 years. While in Pierre, he worked on many issues including legislation dealing with handicapped citizens, small schools and quality education, corporate farming, and property tax reduction.

Bob received the National Towns and Township Award and was active in State and National Farmers Union issues and the National Farmers Organization. In 1998, he was named the 4-H Volunteer of the Year at the Clover Classic at SDSU.

Bob is survived by his wife of 73 years, Shirley Weber of Clear Lake, SD; his children: Mary (Bob) Spartz of LaBolt, SD; Tony (Cindy) Weber of St. Anthony, MN; Bill (Kristi) Weber of Watertown, SD; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Eldon (Marge) Weber of Tacoma, WA; Roy (Katie) Weber of Strandburg, SD; sisters-in-law: Rita Weber of Watertown, SD; Arlis Basil of Belle Fourche, SD; brother-in-law, Millard (Shirley) Roe of Watertown, SD; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathleen Lucy Weber; his parents; six brothers; and two sisters.
