Mavis Geneva Elizabeth (Hicks) Webster was born to Claud and Lillian (Lauritsen) Hicks in Kingsbury County, SD, on February 23, 1933, and grew up in Wilmot, SD.

On March 2, 1951, Mavis was married to Gordon Webster. With the exception of their years with the U.S. Army in Fort Hood, TX, and Cayey, Puerto Rico, they lived and worked on the Webster homestead farm and later on their farm a short distance from Wilmot.

Mavis was a very hard-working and devoted wife and mother. In addition to the farm tasks, she also worked in Wilmot for Wes Thorpe Produce and the Wilmot Public School Library. After Gordon’s death in 1992, Mavis enjoyed her employment with South Dakota Tourism. She was talented in music, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and painting. Reading a good book gave her great pleasure. She was a lifelong member of the Wilmot First Presbyterian Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Mavis is survived by her daughters: Pamela Haubris of Wilmot, SD; Colette (David) Eneboe of Mesa, AZ; and Lisa Webster of Rapid City, SD; adopted daughter, Char DeMaria of Bismarck, ND; her grandchildren: Keith (Brandi) Haubris of Wilmot, SD; Jackie (Chad) Dempsey of San Diego, CA; and Joanna (David) Keefner of San Diego, CA; six great-grandchildren; sister, Erma (Fred) Maxwell of Wilmot, SD; and many nieces and nephews. Her granddog, Mya brought many smiles to Mavis’s face this past year.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon in January 1992; and her parents.

Memorials are preferred to the Wilmot Public Library or Wilmot City Cemetery.
