LuAnn Smith

LuAnn M. Smith, age 85, of Milbank, SD, died on June 10, 2019, at Milbank Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 21, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home Chapel in Milbank. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service. Pastor Melanie Reiners will officiate, and burial will take place at Hope Cemetery in Summit, SD.

LuAnn Marie Smith was born on June 14, 1933, in Milbank, SD, to Herman and Elise (Lee) Halvorson. She was baptized and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church in Summit, SD. LuAnn attended school in Summit and graduated from Summit High School in 1951. She attended Augustana College for one year, then worked as a Lab Technician for Dr. Brinkman and Dr. Brauer in Sisseton, SD. LuAnn moved to Seattle, WA, in 1954 to take a job as a meter maid. She also worked for U Park from 1974 - 2005. LuAnn married Edward J. Smith in Seattle, WA, on March 10, 1972. She moved back to Milbank after Edward died in 2005.

LuAnn grew up in Summit and enjoyed outside activities including fishing, scooter and horseback riding, and playing ball. She loved dancing, animals, and always had a dog. LuAnn was also car crazy.

LuAnn is survived by her brother, Omar (Janice) Halvorson of Summit, SD; nieces: Robin (Todd) Bortnem of Brookings, SD; Rebecca Woodland of Portland, OR; Kelsey Woodland of Portland, OR; nephews: Robert Halvorson of Summit, SD; and Gavin (Cassy) Woodland of Gold Canyon, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Herman and Elise; husband, Edward; brother, David Halvorson; and adopted sister, Donna Lou Anderson.
