Joycelyn Jensen, age 87, of Big Stone City, SD, died on Tuesday, May 17, at the Ortonville Area Health Services Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 6, at Tabor United Methodist Church in Big Stone City, SD. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church in Big Stone City. Honorary urn bearers will be her grandchildren: Jason Hillmyer, Joshua Hillmyer, Jaclyn Nuveen, and Coralyn Kurtz.
Joycelyn Leone Jensen was born on September 17,1934, in Lake Lillian, MN, to Earl and Mildred (Peterson) Rubel. She attended school in Litchfield, MN. Joycelyn married DeWayne Jensen on July 22, 1952, at the Methodist Church in Litchfield, MN. Joycelyn and DeWayne moved to Elk River, MN, in 1965. They lived in Washburn, ND, beginning in 1984, until moving to Big Stone Lake, SD, near Wilmot, SD, in 1994. In 1998, they moved to their home near Big Stone City, SD, where Joycelyn resided until 2022.
Joycelyn was a member of Tabor United Methodist Church in Big Stone City and involved in many aspects of church life. She was a member of the Red Hats, enjoyed gardening, painting, and arts and crafts. She especially cherished her time together with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all.
Joycelyn Jensen is survived by her son Brad (Barty) Jensen of Watertown, SD; daughter, Lynn (Monty) Hillmyer of Cokato, MN; grandchildren: Jason (Karina) Hillmyer of Dassel, MN; Joshua (Melissa) Hillmyer of Delano, MN; Jaclyn (Michiel) Nuveen of Grand Forks, ND; Coralyn (David) Kurtz of Grand Forks, ND; great-grandchildren: Keyra, Dylan, Dane, Karson, Chase, Max, Easton, Nora, Greta, Henrik, Hadley, Colton, Joslyn, Mason, Marleigh, Jack, Jimmy, Will; and sister Sharon Smith of Cokato, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband DeWayne, on July 12, 2015; brothers: Perry Rubel, and Lyndon Rubel.
