Joseph Lee Peters was born on December 19, 1951, in Ortonville, MN, to Leonard and Clara (Kiern) Peters. He grew up in Nassau, MN, and graduated from Marietta High School with the Class of 1969.

Joe started work in St. Paul, MN, at a diecasting plant for two years. He started building grain bins and worked for several companies over the years; he did this work for about 15 years. Joe later moved to Arizona and worked for Biff Baker Fence Company out of Tucson. He moved back to Willmar, MN, and built grain bins for a short time before taking a job with the United Postal Service as a mail contractor for 15 years before retiring in 2007. Joe lived in the Montevideo, Holloway, and Appleton areas while working for the Postal Service.

It was after moving back to the Montevideo area, he was introduced to Debra Hill. The two were united in marriage on December 26, 1987. Together, they resided in Boyd, MN, until they decided to make Clinton, MN, their home in 1995. They eventually divorced but remained friends until her death on April 12, 2017. Joe moved to Milbank in 2009, where he resided until his passing.

As an avid baseball fan, Joe enjoyed watching baseball on television or going to games. He collected many Minnesota Twins memorabilia. Joe enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years. He also loved to go camping with Deb and cherished the time he got to spend with his grandchildren, who lovingly referred to him as “Papa Joe”.

Left to remember him fondly are his son, Michael Peters; step-son, Chris (Kate) Hill of St. Cloud, MN; grandchildren: Tiffany, Kalina, Keanna, Preston, and Beckham; sisters: Marilyn Ketchum of Ortonville, MN; and Darliss (Nelson) Cox of Beardsley, MN; brother, Jim Peters of Milbank, SD; along with many nieces and nephews.
