James “Jim” Angerhofer, Jr., was born on December 31, 1953, in Milbank, SD, to James, Sr. and Joan “Susie” (Smith) Angerhofer. Jim attended school in Milbank and graduated from Milbank High School. He married Sheryl Jensen on May 20, 1978, at Elim Covenant Church in Stockholm, SD. Together they were blessed with 42 years of marriage and three daughters: Rachel, Kayla, and Jamie.

Jim began plumbing work for Willard and Alice Woitte as a DECCA student. He purchased the business from them in 1987, and he owned and operated Angerhofer Plumbing and Heating in Milbank for many years. He was a member of the Milbank Chamber of Commerce and an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where he served as church treasurer.

Jim enjoyed making the rounds in the morning, checking in and visiting with friends and other business owners. He enjoyed catching up with friends and neighbors on the phone and would always ask “What’s for supper tonight?” He loved to joke about joining in on a good supper or tagging along on a trip. He would strike up a conversation with anybody, anywhere. While on vacation, he was known to meet new people and let them know he was from Milbank, SD!

Jim was well known for his volunteerism and strong community spirit. He had a passion for helping and serving others, especially when it came to fundraisers and benefit events. He would bring his big roaster of beans for the benefits, and he would make chili for the Bethlehem and St. John Lutheran potato bake. When he made his homemade sauerkraut, he would make sure to make enough for both his family and the church. He loved his neighbors and would look for ways to help others in any way that he could. In later years, Jim helped Norm and Nancy Patterson by helping at funerals and around the funeral home. He was so proud to help in his community and even had his own name tag.

Jim found his joy spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved playing cards, especially Pinochle, at family gatherings. He was an accommodating host and would make sure that there was plenty of food and food choices for his family and guests. During the Christmas holiday, Jim would make sure that there was a meat, cheese, and relish tray for everyone to snack on.

Jim Angerhofer is survived by his wife, Sheryl of Milbank, SD; daughters: Rachel (Blake) Schmieg of Corona, SD; Kayla Angerhofer of Wilmot, SD; and Jamie Angerhofer of Watertown, SD;  grandchildren: Sadie, Cody, Emma, Tanen, Caden, Suryianna, Jensen, Kaliyah, Eva;  mother, Joan “Susie” Angerhofer of Rapid City, SD; sisters: Deborah Williams of Polo, MO; Karen (Don) Weber of Rapid City, SD;  and Vicki (Gary) Foss of Hermosa, SD; brother, Scott Angerhofer of Watertown, SD; sister-in-law, Marsha Angerhofer of Milbank, SD; along with many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, James, Sr.; brother, Gavin; and brother-in-law, Edward Williams.
