Geraldine Hansen

Geraldine Hansen, age 96, of Milbank, SD, died on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at St. William’s Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 31, at American Lutheran Church in Milbank, SD, with Rev. Justin Neugebauer officiating.  Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 30, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home and continue one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.  Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery, South Shore, SD.

Geraldine Mae Jaquet was born on March 10, 1923, to William and Grace (Dorman) Jaquet in Deuel County, SD.  She attended Goodwin School during her youth.

Geraldine married Percy Orville Hansen on September 2, 1939, in Milbank, SD. They raised their six children on farms near Stockholm, SD, and Twin Brooks, SD.  As Percy’s health was failing, they sold the farm and moved to Corona.

Geraldine performed any and all tasks on the farm and was devoted to her husband and children.  She worked for Fish Electric for nine years and for Big Stone Cheese Factory for an additional nine years.  Geraldine enjoyed quilting, jig-saw puzzles, and playing cards.

When Percy died in 1983, she moved to Milbank, and in 2015, she moved into Park Place.  In 2017, she moved to St. William’s Care Center. She was a member of American Lutheran Church in Milbank for many years and was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary.

Geraldine is survived by her sons: Jimmy (Ann) of Veneta, OR; Richard (Sandra) of Twin Brooks, SD; Ralph (Nancy) of Milbank, SD; daughters: Dorothy Olson of Selby, SD; Dianna “Tyke” Schumacher of Milbank, SD; 18 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 28 great-great-grandchildren; many nephews and nieces.

Preceding Geraldine in death was her husband, Percy; son, Robert; daughter-in-law, Carole; sons-in-law: George Harms and Phillip Olson; granddaughter, Becky Chessron; brothers: Phil Jaquet, Wilbert “Bud” Jaquet; sisters: Rachel Koepke and Priscilla Westphal.
