Bruce Sime

Bruce Sime, age 80, of Revillo, SD, passed away on March 25, 2020, at Milbank Area Hospital – Avera after a short illness.

Private family services will be held at Mundwiler Funeral Home on Saturday, March 28, 2020, and burial will take place at Revillo City Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 27, 2020, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.at Mundwiler Funeral Home. We must adhere to the CDC and Milbank City official recommendations for public gatherings (10 persons or less in the building at a time).

Bruce Neil Sime was born on December 7, 1939, in Milbank, SD, to Norman and Boletta (Limberg) Sime. He grew up in Revillo and lived there all of his life. Bruce graduated from Revillo High School in 1958. After graduation, he attended vocational school in Omaha, NE, for auto mechanics.

After vocational school, Bruce entered into the United States Air Force. He was a mechanic and worked on many of the planes. Bruce was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, for a period of time before being Hardship Discharged in 1961. He returned home after the death of his father to take care of his mother and the family farm.

On November 6, 1964, Bruce was united in marriage with Karen E. Amundson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Revillo. To this union, two sons were born. Bruce continued to operate the family farm until he was about 50-years-old, when he sold all of his livestock, obtained his Commercial Driver’s License, and went to work as an over-the-road truck driver.

Bruce was a member of the American Legion in Stockholm, SD, and served on the Revillo Volunteer Fire Department for many years. Farming, gardening, and trucking were not only his way of life but also things he was passionate about as well. Bruce enjoyed deer hunting with his grandsons when he got the opportunity. He was a gentle man who wasn’t afraid of work and continued to farm the land until his death.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 55 years, Karen Sime of Revillo, SD; sons: Jeff (Joan) Sime of Watertown, SD; and Trent (Gail) Sime of Watertown, SD; grandsons: Tucker Sime and Carter Sime; step-grandchildren: Hunter Skorczewski and Makenzie Skorczewski; great-grandchildren: Holden and Hudson; brothers: Orman “Morrie” (Bev) Sime of Watertown, SD; Al (Marlene) Sime of Britton, SD; and Steve Sime of Burlington, IA; special family friend, Gena Keller; along with many nieces and nephews.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents: Norman and Boletta Sime.
