Betty Ann Giossi was born on April 24th, 1930, to Henry and Marie (Schneck) Hinders in Bryant, SD.

Betty married Raymond Giossi on February 25th, 1945. Ray and Betty lived and worked on a farm north of Milbank where they raised ten children: Kenny, Dorothy, Gene, Allen, Sherry, Jim, Susan, Cindy, Kathy and Bruce. Betty was busy not only with raising ten children but she helped with the farming and worked outside of the home at Milbank Area Hospital in the kitchen as a cook and baker. Betty was well known for her baking, especially her caramel rolls, and when asked for the recipe she never had it written down. “A little of this and a little of that” was her practice in cooking.

On the farm, Betty enjoyed her garden. She grew her own vegetables and did a lot of canning over the years, but her real passion was her flower garden. She loved going to the local greenhouses every spring to stock up. They also raised chickens and all the kids remember her butchering them to sell fresh chickens to the surrounding neighbors.

Betty and Ray spent many camping trips with their children, she loved the outdoors and the warmth of the sunshine. In later life she even bought a cane pole to enjoy fishing like she did as a small child. She loved music and was the drummer in a band call “The Country Mile” with her sister-in-law, Janice. Most of all she loved her family and had them over as often as possible. Every Sunday she’d have her children and grandchildren out to the farm for a big family meal and fellowship. No one left hungry. Christmas was her favorite family time with all the decorations and baking.

Betty was an active, long-time member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and it was her strong faith that got her through the death of four of her children and her husband.

Betty is survived by her children: Dorothy (Norval) Drewelow of Clinton, MN; Allan (Barb) Giossi of Munfordville, KY; Jim (Lynette) Giossi of Milbank , SD; Susan (Michael) Johnson of Milbank, SD; Cindy (Harlen) Jorgenson of Ortonville, MN; Kathy (Doug) Winter of Clear Lake, SD; son-in-law: Alvin Spanton of Watertown, SD; daughter-in-law: June Giossi of Milbank, SD; sister-in-law: Janice Hinders of Big Stone City, SD; twenty-six grandchildren; sixty great-grandchildren; twelve great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Raymond; sons: Kenny, Gene and Bruce; daughter: Sherry Spanton; daughter-in-law: Karen Giossi; brother: Robert Hinders; and two great-grandchildren.
