Valina Nichols

July 19, 1915 — October 26, 2017

Valina J. Nichols, age 102, who died on October 25, 2017, at Fairway View Assisted Living.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., at Artichoke Lake Baptist Church in rural Correll, MN. Pastor Tom Swartley will officiate. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 31, 2017, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Mundwiler and Larson Funeral Home. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place in Artichoke Lake Baptist Cemetery.

Valina Johanna Jorgenson was born to Aldor B. and Anne (Swenson) Jorgenson on July 19, 1915, in Artichoke Township, Big Stone County, Minnesota. She grew up on the family homestead, the youngest of five children. She attended Country School in District 13 through the eighth grade. She worked alongside her family on the farm for one year, then moving to Bellingham, MN to attend High School. Valina graduated from the Bellingham High School with the class of 1935.
After high school, she worked as a house maid in Ortonville, MN, until she met and later married her best friend, Richard Nichols. They were united in marriage on February 6, 1940. Valina and Richard farmed for 12 years before moving to Circle Pines, MN. They later moved to California, then back to the Twin Cities. Valina worked in retail, as well as, a turkey processing plant, cherry processing plant and a motel for many years.

Valina was also a home maker and devoted Mother and Wife. She truly loved her husband, Richard, and each of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren! She also enjoyed: gardening, crafting, reading and traveling, taking memorable trips to Arizona, Utah and Hawaii! Everywhere she went, Valina always enjoyed the beautiful scenery.

Left with her loving memory are her children: Darlene (Bob) Born of Correll, MN; Joanne (Allan) O’Shea of St. Paul, MN; David (Renee) Nichols of Whitehall, WI; Kieth (Rosie) Nichols of Tracy, CA; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Valina was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard Nichols; infant son, Richard Henry; siblings: Alice Hallenborg, Henning Jorgenson, Lewis Jorgenson and one infant brother.
