Shirley Poppen

Shirley Poppen, age 85, of Milbank, SD, passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at St. William's Care Center.

Services for Shirley will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank. Pastor Kristy Liebe will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be: Jeff Spanton, Bill Dwyer, Lonny Heller, John Loeschke, Al Mathiason, and Doug Buri.

The pianist will be Sherry DeBoer.

Shirley Mae (Harder) Poppen was born on May 4, 1937, (by Big Tom) in Grant County, SD, to Henry and Bertha (Mielitz) Harder. She attended country school for three years then finished her education in the Milbank Public School system.

Shirley was united in marriage with Eugene Poppen and together, they had three daughters: Sherry Lee, Rosanne, and Angela; and one son, Corrie.

Working in retail for 34 years, Shirley held jobs at Wilson’s Department Store, Sunne’s Department Store, and Linda’s Fashions. She enjoyed people and liked clothing.

Being a member of Central United Methodist Church, Shirley loved to sing in the gospel choir.

Shirley is survived by her three daughters; and one grandchild, Riley Burnham.
