Shirley A. Kargleder

Shirley Ann Kargleder, age 78, a native of Milbank/Big Stone City, SD, and a longtime resident of Mobile, AL, and Pensacola, FL, passed away on February 10, 2025.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Big Stone City, SD. Father Brian Eckrich will celebrate the Mass. Visitation will held one hour prior to the Mass at St. Charles Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Charles Catholic Cemetery, Big Stone City.

Shirley Ann Kargleder was born on June 21, 1946, in Milbank, SD. She was the daughter of George and Ruby Theresa (Gulck) Kargleder.

Shirley served as registrar at Springhill College in Mobile, AL, and later as registrar at the University of South Alabama. She received her bachelor’s degree from Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD, and her MBA from the University of South Alabama. Shirley cherished her time with her family and the camaraderie she shared with her friends. Shirley enjoyed reading, learning, and playing the card game of bridge.

Shirley is survived by her two siblings: George (Barbara) and Mary (Abye). She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Delores; nephews: Marcus and Ryan; nieces: Sarah, Betsy, Leah, Renee and Rachel, along with great nephews and great nieces.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents: George Leonard and Ruby (Gulck) Kargleder; and her siblings: Charles and Eugene.

In lieu of flowers, memorial mass donations may be made in her remembrance at St. Charles Catholic Church or the American Heart Association.
