Ruth Hoernemann

Ruth Hoernemann, age 89, of Ortonville, MN. died April 1, 2014 at Northridge Residence in Ortonville.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Odessa, MN. Reverend Thaine Kister will officiate. Burial will be at Mound Cemetery in Ortonville.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church in Odessa, Saturday, April 5, from 1 -2 p.m.

Ruth Elvera Hoernemann was born to Oscar and Anna (Johnson) Johnson on August 10, 1924, on her family's farm in rural Ortonville, Minnesota. She attended Ortonville District 63 Country School and graduated from Ortonville High School in 1943. She furthered her education at Ebenezar Lutheran Home in Madison, Minnesota, graduating as a practical nurse in 1945. Ruth worked in the Ortonville Hospital before she was married and again after her children started school. She was dedicated to the wellbeing of her patients.

On September 8, 1951, Ruth was united in marriage with Arthur Hoernemann at Elim Lutheran Church in Clinton, Minnesota. To this union six children were born. They made their home in Ortonville. Since 1951 Ruth had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Odessa, Minnesota where she was active in the Ladies Aide. She was a long time volunteer with the American Cancer Society, especially helping with the daffodil sales. Ruth was a member of the Ortonville Hospital Auxiliary, TOPS, the Horticulture Club, and the Homemakers Club. She was active in the Big Stone County Fair, both as a volunteer and an exhibitor.

Ruth's hobbies included gardening flowers and vegetables, and she canned and froze much of her vegetable harvest. She also enjoyed trying new recipes she found in newspapers and magazines.

Cherishing her memory are her husband Arthur of Ortonville, MN; children: Diane (John) VanDierendonck of Robbinsdale, MN; Charlene (Jon) Sovanski of Kewanee, IL; Betty Hoernemann of Robbinsdale, MN; Debra Hoernemann of Crystal, MN; James Hoernemann of Robbinsdale, MN: and Bruce (Sheila) Hoernemann of Ortonville, MN; grandchildren: Carmen Sovanski; Kerry John Sovanski; Adam (Crystal) Sovanski; Lisa (Mike) Powers; Matthew VanDierendonck; Rachel Hoernemann; and Jacob Hernemann; great-grandchild Henley Marie Powers; sisters-in-law Loretta (Jim) Sheaver of Park Rapids, MN; Pat Hoernemann of Morris, MN; Irene Johnson of Waterloo, IA; and Fern Johnson of Billings, MT; and brother-in-law Lyndon (Darla) Hoernemann of Bloomington, MN.

Preceding her death were her parents and her brothers: Carl Johnson, Harold Johnson, Warner (Gail) Johnson, Glen Johnson, and LeeRoy Johnson.
