Roy Gruettner

Mundwiler Larson Funeral Home of Browns Valley announces the death of Roy Gruettner, age 72, of Browns Valley. Roy passed away on July 3, 2012 in Sisseton, South Dakota. A private Funeral Service was held on July 4. Upon his request, Roy's body was donated to the University of Minnesota Anatomy Bequest Program. Roy Allen Gruettner was born on February 3, 1940 to George and Florence (Herrick) Gruettner in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He graduated from Pulaski High School. Roy served in the United States Marine Corp and was honorably discharged. Roy was most recently the bookkeeper and delivered Meals on Wheels for The Cottage Cafe in Sisseton, SD and also worked as a cook and site manager for Greenleaf Assisted Living, also in Sisseton. Roy had catered numerous weddings and special events and had previously co-owned the Keg and Cue Bar in Browns Valley. Roy had resided in Browns Valley since 1980.

Roy was a devoted Green Bay Packers fan. He enjoyed bowling, cribbage, cooking, playing pool, golfing, and Ole and Lena jokes. He especially cherished family gatherings and "sugaring up" the grandkids!

Roy is survived by his children: Julie Varga of Pewaukee, WI; Jacqueline Gruettner of Milwaukee, WI; April (Joe) Sterling of Browns Valley; John (Sharnell) Grimm of Browns Valley; Mickey Gruettner of Browns Valley; Janet (Cory) Rasmussen of Barnesville, MN; Jesse (Sheila Greseth) Gruettner of Browns Valley; and Mary Gruettner of Fargo, ND; 26 grandchildren; and two brothers: Richard of Salt Lake City, UT and James of Milwaukee, WI.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Marie, and his brother, George.
