Roy Bailey

Roy Bailey, age 94, of Ortonville, MN, passed away on August 8, 2023, at Fairway View Neighborhoods in Ortonville.

Please join the Bailey family in a Celebration of Roy’s Life on Monday, August 21, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Living Hope Fellowship Church in Ortonville (located at 840 Pine Avenue, Ortonville, MN 56278).

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 20, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Mundwiler and Larson Funeral Home in Ortonville.

Roy Eugene Bailey was born January 25, 1929, to parents, John Lind and Hannah (Hanson) Bailey in their farmhouse south of Chokio, MN.

On October 17, 1948, he married Vivian Irene Watson from Ortonville, MN. In 1957, Roy moved his family to Arizona where he began his construction career.

In 1975, Roy and Vivian moved back to the Minnesota “lake house” on Big Stone Lake. Roy’s construction experience made it easy for him to land a job with Hasslen Construction. Following his retirement from Hasslen, he accepted the role of building inspector for the City of Ortonville, which he held until the age of 89.

Roy will be remembered as a lover of garage sales. He loved to take children fishing and boating. He was fascinated by Native American artifacts and enjoyed his guns. His 1955 Blue Ford Pickup was a great hobby and he drove it in many local parades. He loved people and knew no stranger. He will be remembered by the people of Ortonville for his Mobility Scooter adventures from Fairway View to downtown Ortonville.

Those left to cherish his memories are his sisters: Doris Watson; and Lois (Robert) Hall; children: Sharon (Dan) Toms, Linda Bailey, Darold (Paula) Bailey, and Curtis (Linda) Bailey; grandchildren: Chad (Cheryl) Holtquist, Jesse (Nikki) Holtquist, Jeremy Toms, Andrew (Karla) Toms, Tom (Skylar) Bailey, Jesse (Mimina) Bailey, and Barbara (John) Schultz; and many great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Vivian (Watson) in 2020; by his brother, Lyle; and sister, Janice.

RIP – You lived a full life and were loved by all.
