Ronald "Ron" Vernlund

Ronald Vernlund, age 81, of Milbank, SD, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.

A memorial service will be held in the Spring of 2025 at Rosy Cemetery in Alvwood, MN. A luncheon will follow at Ron’s sister, Edna Beighley’s home.

Ronald Lee Vernlund was born on January 8, 1943, at his home in Third River Township of Itasca County, MN, to John Joseph and Elsie (Johnson) Vernlund.

Ron dedicated much of his life to hard work, proudly serving in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1964. Following his service, he embarked on a remarkable journey as an over-the-road semi-truck driver, traversing all 50 states. This adventurous vocation allowed him to explore the diverse tapestry of America, forging fond memories as he traveled.

He cherished time spent with family and friends, often gathering around a table for a good meal, where laughter and stories flowed freely. Ron's love for conversation and connection resonated deeply with everyone fortunate enough to know him. 

Ron is survived by his four sons; two daughters; siblings: Edna Beighley, John Vernlund, Gloria (Lowell) Skinner, Sharon Larson, and Craig Vernlund; along with many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his first wife, Margaret; children: Rhonda Vernlund, Melissa Vernlund, Kimberly Vernlund, and Timothy Vernlund; his parents, Joe and Elsie Vernlund; and siblings: Steven Vernlund, Vicky Skowron, Kathy Patch, and Richard Vernlund.
