Robert “Spud” Beyer, age 87 of Milbank passed away on February 25, 2018, at Milbank Area Hospital – Avera Health.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 2 at 2:00 p.m. at American Lutheran Church in Milbank. Rev. Bob Hansen will officiate. Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery. Visitation will be at Mundwiler Funeral Home on Thursday from 5 – 7 p.m. and continue at the church on Friday, one hour prior to the service.
Casket bearers will be: Brett Beyer, Dan Weber, Jon Weber, Matthew Gengler, Adam Gengler, and Alan Gengler.
Robert “Spud” Edward Beyer was born on July 12, 1930, at Eldridge, ND. He was the son of Edwin and Minnie (Schultz) Beyer. Robert grew up in Jamestown, ND. Robert served in the United States Army from 1946 – 1950. He served in Korea as military policeman. Following his honorable discharge, he was united in marriage with Delila Kurtz on January 8, 1955, in Jamestown. This union was blessed with six children: Brenda, David, Sheryl, Kathleen, Robert, and James. The family moved to Milbank in 1973, and Robert worked at Big Stone Power Plant. He was the chief operator and the Union representative for several years. In 1992, Spud retired after 40 years of service.
Robert was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the VFW. He was a member of American Lutheran Church in Milbank.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Brenda (Alan) Gengler of Big Stone City, SD; David (Laurie) Beyer of Revillo, SD; Sheryl (Michael) Scholten of Valley Springs, SD; Kathleen (Michael) Weber of Chelmsford, MA; Robert (Kerry) Beyer of Hermosa, SD; and James Beyer of Milbank, SD; and Thor; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; four sisters; and two brothers.
