Raymond Rand

Raymond Rand, age 95, of Ortonville, MN passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Northridge Residence in Ortonville.

Funeral Servcies for Raymond Rand will be held on Monday, March 7, 2011 at 11:00 AM at First English Lutheran Church in Ortonville. David Tonn will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday. Burial will be at Eids Cemetery, rural Ortonville.

Raymond Arthur Rand was born on June 25, 1915 on his family farm in Odessa Township, the youngest child to parents Rasmus and Karoline (Monson) Rand. Raymond was baptized on August 22, 1915 at Eids Lutheran Church and was confirmed at Eids Lutheran Church on June 30, 1929. Raymond attended country school District #48 near Ortonville through the 9th grade.

Raymond farmed all his life; he liked to spend his time reading, camping and sight-seeing. He spent several winters in California and Arizona. Raymond took flying lessons in 1941 where he took his flights in a single engine plane. He still has his original license.

Raymond had many talents and was gifted with the ability to create beautiful furniture, figurines and folk art. He also crafted replicas of farm machinery, such as wagons, tractors and hayracks. Raymond made a replica of his farm home, including the furnishings that were inside the home and a nearly perfect replica of Eids Church; these works of art are on display at the Big Stone Co. Museum in Ortonville.

Raymond was a member of Eids Lutheran Church until the church closed; he then became a member of First English Lutheran Church in Ortonville. Raymond was a quiet, pleasant person and very special to those who were privileged to be his friend.

Raymond passed away on March 3, 2011 at Northridge Residence in Ortonville, MN. He had lived to reach the age of 95 years.

Raymond is survived by his nephews: Roger Stanley, Melvin Rand, Rasmus Rand, Charles Rand, Raymond Rand, Michael Rand, and Ronald Barnes; Nieces; Arlis Topitzhofer, Carol Clark, Nancy Kowalke, Betty Renneberg, and Clarice Buckman; many great-nieces and nephews, and cousins and special friend Lloyd Lorange.

Raymond is preceded in death by his parents Rasmus and Karoline Rand; brothers: Ed, Jacob and Melvin; sisters: Bertina, Olive, Hilda, Martha, Regina and Jeanette.
