Phyllis Murphy

Phyllis Murphy, age 83, of Milbank, SD, died on June 13, 2019, at St. William's Care Center.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 17, at 1:00 p.m. at Living Word Lutheran Church in Milbank. Reverend Kent Groethe will officiate. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 16, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery at a later date.

Phyllis Ann (Schley) Murphy was born on July 26, 1935, in Minneapolis, MN, to Clarence and Pearl (West) Schley. Her mother passed away when Phyllis was just eight years old and she was raised by her uncle and aunt, Wilfred and Violet Norstrom in Cambridge, MN. Phyllis graduated from Cambridge High School in 1953.

She enjoyed traveling with her friends after high school. Phyllis was united in marriage to Dennis Murphy on June 14, 1958, at Incarnation Church in Minneapolis. The couple moved to Milbank in 1997. Phyllis worked at Prudential, was a homemaker during the day and worked at night, worked at Alco, was a secretary at the VA office and at the SEARS store. She also volunteered her time at the thrift store.

Phyllis enjoyed traveling with Dennis to places like Alaska and Hawaii, as well as, several bus trips. She cherished her grandchildren and loved spending time with them. She tried to be there for them as much as possible.

Phyllis is survived by her children: Douglas (Vicky) Murphy of Lakeville, MN; Wayne (Kim) Murphy of Minneapolis, MN; and Debra (Jim) Schuelke of Milbank, SD; eight grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter, Adalynn Murphy.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dennis in 2016; and her parents.
