Melvin Behrens, age 77, of Graceville passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2015, at Sanford Health Hospital in Fargo, ND, after suffering a stroke on April 1, 2015.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 13, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio, MN with Rev. Gloria Anderson officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday evening, April 12, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Monday. Burial will be in the Chokio Lutheran Cemetery.
Melvin Henry Behrens was born on September 8, 1937, at Holy Trinity Hospital in Graceville to John and Sophia (Fuhrman) Behrens, the youngest of ten children. He was baptized on October 31, 1937, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Johnson, Minnesota, and was confirmed on March 22, 1951, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Dumont, Minnesota. Melvin attended District #59 grade school in Traverse County through the eighth grade.
On September 8, 1962, Melvin was united in marriage to Marilyn Zimmerman. Together they raised three children, Cheryl, David, and Brian.
Melvin was a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, and woodworking. The time he spent with family and friends, especially the time he shared with his grandchildren, was important to him. Melvin was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio, Minnesota.
Left with his loving memory is his wife, Marilyn of Graceville; daughter, Cheryl (Jon) Hormann of Minnetonka, MN; sons: David (Valerie) Behrens of Waconia, MN; Brian (Jodi) Behrens of Park Rapids, MN; grandchildren: Parker and Peyton Hormann; Connor and Mason Behrens; and Zachary and Brenna Behrens; brothers: Leroy (Pearl) Behrens of Wheaton, MN; Earl (Dora) Behrens of Moorhead, MN; and Floyd (Jeri) Behrens of Dumont, MN; sisters: Irene Behrens of Minneapolis, MN; and Lois (Donald) Scheelk of Burnsville, MN; and sisters-in-law: Virginia Behrens of Milford, IA; and Lenora Behrens of Wheaton, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
Melvin is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Helen (Neal) Fritz; and brothers: Raymond Behrens; Ervin (Colene) Behrens; Vernon Behrens.
