Melody DeLong

Melody DeLong, 33, of Bolivar, MO, and formerly of Milbank, SD, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2025, in Bolivar, MO.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank, SD. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and will close with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Ortley Cemetery in Ortley, SD.

Melody Joy DeLong and her twin sister, Mandy, were born in Sioux Falls, SD, to Alan and Linda (Meyer) DeLong. Their arrival came with uncertainty, and they were baptized at the hospital shortly after birth. Despite the odds, Melody grew stronger and later was confirmed at American Lutheran Church in Milbank, SD.

Melody attended school in Milbank and graduated from Milbank High School. From ages 18 to 21, she participated in a program through the Milbank school system and also spent a couple of years involved in a program at ATCO in Watertown, SD. Throughout this time, she lived at home with her parents and sisters.

Later, Melody became part of the Life Quest program in Milbank, where she gained valuable life and work experience. While in the program, she held jobs at the Super 8 motel and worked as a paper shredder at a local law firm. In 2018, the family relocated to Missouri.

Melody had a number of favorite things in life: her beloved tablet (which you didn’t dare mess with), her trusty tablet pens (usually one or two), and Dairy Queen chicken strip baskets and gravy. While she was most comfortable indoors, she also enjoyed sitting outside on the front steps, taking in her surroundings. Melody loved listening to others read aloud and was always eager to lend a hand with household chores. Melody was truly one of the happiest, most easygoing people you could meet. She usually had a good time at school and loved to laugh and enjoy life.

Melody will be forever loved and missed by her parents: Alan and Linda DeLong of Bolivar, MO; sisters: Amy DeLong, Emily DeLong; and twin sister, Mandy DeLong all of Bolivar, MO; aunts, uncles, and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Christopher DeLong, one sister, Ashley Delong; paternal grandparents: Orion and Ann DeLong; maternal grandparents: Albert and Ida Meyer; and several aunts and uncles.
