Maybelle Meister

Funeral Services for Maybelle Meister will be held on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 from 5-7:00PM at the Emanuel Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday.

Maybelle Dorothy Spiering was born in Nassau, MN on July 19, 1912 to parents Herman and Augusta (Schmidt) Spiering. Maybelle was baptized on August 11, 1912 and was confirmed on March 26, 1926 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Albee, SD by Rev. Herman Nitschke.

Maybelle received her education at Vernon until 8th grade and attended two years of Nassau High School. On February 16, 1936, she was united in marriage to Edwin Meister in the Church Parsonage in Revillo, SD. To this union, they were blessed with three children: Barbara, Sandra, and Gary.

Maybelle and Edwin made their home in Vernon Township on a farm until moving to Milbank in 1977. Prior to their move, they attended and were members of St. John's Lutheran Church in Revillo. After their move to Milbank, they became members of Emanuel Lutheran Church.

On February 16, 1986, Maybelle and Edwin celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Edwin died on November 8, 1994. Maybelle moved into Park Place in 2003, before moving into St. Williams Care Center in May of 2009. Maybelle was a member of the Grant County Senior Center.

Maybelle died on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at the St. William's Care Center in Milbank, SD; she had lived to reach the age of 98 years.

Maybelle is survived by her children: Gary (Marsha) Meister of Revillo, SD, Barbara Kanthak of Milbank, SD and Sandra (Michael) Foss of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren: Terrance (Heidi) Meister of Revillo, SD, Aaron (Teresa) Meister of Milbank, SD, Cheryl (Brad) Streich of Nassau, MN, Daryl (Tina) Kanthak of Pipestone, MN, James Volkenant of Tucson, AZ, Heather (Garland) Parris of Tucson, AZ and Kristin (Ron) Diaz of Tucson, AZ; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Lillian Meister and Gladys Meister; brother-in-law Melvin (Jan) Meister and many nieces and nephews.

Maybelle is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Edwin; Son-in-law Jerome Kanthak; three brothers: William, Ray and Herbert Spiering; two sisters: Edna Tucholke and Verna Spanton.
