MariAnne E. Young

In the early morning hours of July 2, 2023, MariAnne Elizabeth (Rabe, Wiese) Young went to be in the loving arms of her Lord. She battled multiple ailments like a warrior, but ultimately her body wasn’t as strong as her heart and mind. 

Funeral services for MariAnne Young, age 75, of Inver Grove Heights, MN, formerly of Big Stone City, SD, will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Tabor United Methodist Church in Big Stone City, SD. Rev. Barbara McKewin will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Big Stone City.

MariAnne was born in Ortonville, Minnesota on September 19, 1947, the “middle” child to Harold and Vi Rabe of Big Stone City, South Dakota.  She grew up on the Rabe family farm west of Big Stone City, famous for its round barn and graduated from Ortonville High School.  Her original dream of being a pediatrician took her to Vermillion for college, but her real vocation as Mother soon became her primary focus.  Eventually, she began a career working with the State of Minnesota in their welfare division where she ultimately served over 30 years.  Like her parents, MariAnne loved music.  Her beautiful voice comes to mind whenever her name is spoken.  She sang at church, in the car, at home and was a member of a Sweet Adeline’s chorus both in Big Stone City and in Minneapolis.  She sang in multiple quartets and in many competitions including an international event in Australia as one of her favorites.  Leonard C. Young swept her off her feet in 1999, and they were married on October 9, 1999.  Leonard was her dream come true, a true blessing in her life.  MariAnne became a grandma in 1997 and proudly touts her “Nanna” status to 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.  She was a genuine, hardworking, loving person with a song in heart and always on her lips. 

MariAnne is survived by her husband, Leonard Young of Inver Grove Heights, MN; son, Patrick (Maralee) Wiese of Canby, MN; daughter, Kim (Ed) Fitzgerald of Pittsburg, PA; son, Jeremy (Jennifer) Wiese of Big Stone City, SD; daughter, Jessica (Darian) Kuefler of Inver Grove Heights, MN; beloved grandchildren: Zachary, Nicholas, Andrew, Nathan, Erika, Katelyn, Bryan, Matthew, Chance and Megan; great-grandchildren: Blane, Aubrey and Karlee; two brothers: Steve (Carol) Rabe of Big Stone City, SD; and Geven “Yogi” (Kathy) Rabe of Big Stone City, SD.
