A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Mound Cemetery in Ortonville, MN. Pastor Tim Rynearson will officiate the service.
Margaret Ann (Hoffbeck) Hoberg was born on December 6, 1940, in Milbank, SD, to Earl and Lilah (Smith) Hoffbeck.
Margaret grew up with a love for the outdoors and farm life. When she was eight years old, her younger sister, Deanna (“De De”), was born — giving Margaret what she lovingly thought of as a real-life baby doll to care for and play with. She spent her early years driving tractor and riding her pony, Dusty, later enjoying time with her Palomino, Lady. At the age of 12, Margaret’s family moved to Big Stone City, SD, where she would continue to build the roots of a life centered on family, hard work, and simple joys. She graduated from Big Stone City High School in 1959.
Margaret was blessed with two children: Georganna and Charlene, from her marriage to George Fredrickson. She was a proud grandmother so her six grandchildren, and she cherished her many great-grandchildren.
Later in life, Margaret married Kenny Hoberg. Through that union, she embraced new traditions — learning to enjoy lefse and lutefisk — and continued to share in a life grounded in family and community.
Margaret had a love for music and she especially enjoyed singing. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she put her singing to good use. She worked for the Ortonville Canning Factory and dedicated part of her working life to caring for others at the nursing home in Ortonville, where she was known for her kindness and compassion toward the residents.
She is survived by her children: Georganna Beavers, and Charlene Folk Hynnek; six grandchildren: Sarah Beavers, Paul Beavers, Crystal Folk Wittrock, Jesse Folk, Bobby Folk, and Kenny Folk; many great-grandchildren; and her sister, Deanna (“De De”) Rudolph.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenny Hoberg; and her parents: Earl and Lilah Hoffbeck.
Margaret will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her love of family, her hardworking nature, and the warmth she brought to those around her.
