Mabel Nelson

Mundwiler & Larson Funeral Home announces the death of Mabel Nelson, age 88, of Odessa. Mabel passed away on Friday, February 15, 2013 at the Northridge Residence in Ortonville.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Odessa at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Pat Radtke will be the organist and Ann Nelson will be the soloist. Pastor Arlo Janssen will be officiating. Burial will be at the Clinton City Cemetery in Clinton.

Mabel Elsie Galow (Nelson) was born and raised in rural Correll, MN. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in the Grace Lutheran Church in Correll on June 5th, 1938. She attended school in Big Stone and Swift counties.
In Clarkfield and Clinton, she worked as a waitress in her early youth. She later worked as a grocery store clerk in Clinton until retirement. Mabel was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Clinton from 1946 to 1992, and then became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Odessa.
Mabel was married to Sander Julian Nelson on October 5th, 1946 at a small, private ceremony in Clinton. They were blessed with three children: Thomas, Carla, and Debra.
She spent her working years living in Clinton and later moved to Odessa, where she spent the remainder of her life. Mabel loved to embroider and work jig-saw puzzles; she was an avid MN Twins fan and enjoyed spending time with her family. She is well known for her baking and cooking skills; especially pies, bread and lefse.
She is survived by son, Thomas K. Nelson (Ann Nelson), her daughter Debra A. Walker (Joseph Walker), three sisters, Sylvia Rasmussen, Alvina Phipps, Joyce Suckow (DuWayne Suckow), seven grand-daughters, and seven great-grandchildren. She is dearly loved and will be missed by all.
Mabel is preceded in death by her husband, Sander; daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Larry Knutson; and brother Lyle Galow.
