Lyle Wittnebel, age 89, of Ortonville, MN, passed away on August 9, 2021, at his residence.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, August 13, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Walter Township, MN. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m., on Thursday, August 12, at Mundwiler and Larson Funeral Home in Ortonville, and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Burial will be at Trinity Town Walter Cemetery.
Lyle Lee Wittnebel was born on January 17, 1932, at home in Marietta, MN, to Herbert and Edna (Soltenberg) Wittnebel. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith on February 21, 1932, and confirmed on June 2,1946, at Trinity Lutheran Town Walter. Lyle attended country school at Walter School District #107.
On July 23, 1960, Lyle was united in marriage with Rose Angerhofer at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Alban Township, Grant County, SD. Together they had a son, Douglas. The family made their home in rural Bellingham, MN, until 2003 when they moved to Ortonville. Lyle was a lifetime farmer in the Bellingham area raising dairy, swine, and grain.
Lyle's faith was very important to him and he was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Town Walter Church; he served on many church boards throughout his life.
In his younger years, Lyle would talk about going to Nassau and playing pool, going to dances at Sioux Historic, trapping, and target shooting. Lyle enjoyed farming and passing on his knowledge to his son, grandson, granddaughter, and great-grandchildren. He loved to read farming magazines and pass on what he learned to everyone about a new seed variety or what new chemical was available. When he retired, he loved to take countryside tours and check the crops and make sure the rows were straight and weed free.
Lyle was so proud of his grandchildren and their families. Most of all he enjoyed family birthdays, holidays, and sitting on the deck watching and playing with the kids. Lyle had a special bond with each of his great-grandchildren: with Evan talking about target shooting, how he shot rocks off of the tops of fence posts and baseball; with Caroline, about her sewing for 4-H, cooking, and her animals; with Lyla playing with her kitties and throwing the ball with her. He created much laughter and memories.
Lyle is survived by his son, Douglas (Betty) Wittnebel of Ortonville, MN; grandchildren: Emily Wittnebel-Schlieman of Dawson, MN; Ryan (Laura) Wittnebel of Bellingham, MN; great-grandchildren: Evan Schlieman, Caroline Schlieman, and Lyla Wittnebel; sister, Janice Buck; and sister-in-law, Edna Angerhofer.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rose; parents: Herbert & Edna Wittnebel; brother, Gerald Wittnebel; sisters-in-law: Rhoda Wittnebel, and Lorraine Meyer; brothers-in-law: Arnold Buck, Clarence Meyer, Sr., James Angerhofer, Sr., Leonard Angerhofer, and Dale Angerhofer.
