Lucille “Lucy” Kockx, age 85, of Ortonville, MN, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2023, at Fairway View Senior Communities.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Big Stone City. Visitation will be held at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a prayer vigil beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Fr. Ken Lulf will celebrate the Mass and interment at St. Charles Catholic Cemetery, Big Stone City, SD.
The service will be live streamed and recorded and will be viewable on Lucille’s obituary page at www.mundwilerfuneralhome.net.
Lucille (Lucy) Christine Kockx was born on October 19, 1937, to Walter and Paulina (Gasperlin) Rau, in Stearns County, MN. Lucy graduated from high school in Big Stone City in 1956.
In 1957, Lucy married Bernard Kockx. Together they operated Bernie’s Foods and Bernie’s Shoes in Ortonville. Lucy was also part owner of Georgia’s Dresses until she became the sole owner and renamed it My Place Dress Store. From 1984 to 1994, the family owned and operated the Theater Seasons Café and Hill Side Hut, followed by the Too Mad Café. Lucy worked from sun up to sun down as she so enjoyed working with the public.
Lucy is survived by her daughters: Nancy (Scott) Greene of Clear Lake, SD; Sara Kockx of Clinton, MN; grandchildren: Brittany Greene of Clinton, MN; Jacob Greene of Clear Lake, SD; brothers: Raymond (Sherri) Rau of Arizona; Walter (Lucy) Rau, Jr., of Sauk Rapids, MN; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard; daughter, Carol; her parents; sister & brother-in-law: Betty (Dale) Hausauer; brothers & sisters-in-law: Arnold (Vera), Warner (Barbara), and Arthur.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Special Olympics of South Dakota or Divine House in Clinton, MN.
