Loren Berg

July 22, 1925 — August 28, 2013

Loren "Pinky" Berg, age 88, died on August 28, 2013, at Golden Living in Milbank.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 2, 2013, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Tabor Lutheran Church in Strandburg. Rev. Keith Smith will be officiating.

Visitation will be held on Sunday evening, September 1st, from 5 – 7 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Music will be provided by Kathy Granquist and Paul and Verla Peterson. Pallbearers will be: David Crocker, Alan Crocker, Steve Crocker, Jared Berg, Jordan Berg, Jacob Berg, Mariah Berg, and Savannah Berg. Honorary bearers will be all Loren's coffee friends in Strandburg and LaBolt and his special friend, Dennis Flemming. Burial will be in the LaBolt Cemetery.

Loren "Pinky" Clayton Berg was born on July 22, 1925, to Egner Eric and Clara Gertrude (Swanson) Berg in LaBolt, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at the LaBolt Covenant Church. He attended country schools and completed the tenth grade. Loren lived his entire life in Grant County, South Dakota, residing in Madison, Vernon and Georgia Townships.

On August 12, 1949, Loren was united in marriage with Clarice Hedman. They were married in the Tabor Lutheran Parsonage. To this union four children were born. They moved to their farm in 1951 where they lived until 2009, at which time they moved to town. Loren farmed with his brothers, raising Angus cattle, milking cows, and growing crops.

Loren was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in LaBolt, where he served on the church council until it closed. He was currently a member of the Tabor Lutheran Church. Loren was the caretaker for the LaBolt Cemetery for many years. Loren also served on the LaBolt Farmers' Grain Elevator Board for 17 years. He was an ASC committee member and a member of the National Farmers' Organization.

Loren loved baseball! He played on the LaBolt Amateur Team for 10 years and also coached Little League.

Cherishing Loren's memory are his wife, Clarice, of LaBolt; his children: Gloria (Dave) Orthaus of Goodwin, SD; Gary (Alexis) Berg of Springfield, MO; and James (Jody) Berg of LaBolt, SD; eight grandchildren: David Crocker, Alan Crocker, Steve Crocker, Jared Berg, Jordan Berg, Jacob Berg, Mariah Berg, and Savannah Berg; five great-grandchildren: Morgan and Brittany Crocker, Austin Crocker, and Holland and Chase Crocker; two sisters: Carol (Gordon) Seim of Watertown, SD, and Lucille Nordquist of LaBolt, SD; three sisters-in-law: Evelyn Berg, Dorothy Berg Schuelke, and LaVergne Hedman, all of Milbank, SD; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Loren was preceded in death by his parents; his stillborn son, Larry; and two brothers: Leslie Berg and Gordon Berg.
