Lola Malone

January 8, 1921 — April 17, 2006

Lola was born on January 8, 1921, at her parent's farm in Grant Center Township, Grant County, South Dakota, the daughter of Albert R. and Minnie (Zick) Radtke, Sr. She attended grade school at Grant Center No. 3 country school. Lola met her future husband when he came to do carpentry work on the family farm. She was united in marriage to George M. Malone on April 30, 1961, at the Central United Methodist Church in Milbank. The couple lived their entire married life in Milbank. They moved to Northridge Residence in Ortonville on June 7, 2002. George died on February 19, 2003.
She worked for twenty years as a dishwasher at the Milbank High School cafeteria. Lola enjoyed the students very much and made several lifelong friends.
Lola enjoyed cooking, baking, and canning fruits and vegetables that she and George raised in their big garden. She took pride in the tomatoes that she raised and sold them to friends and neighbors for many years. Lola especially loved her flower gardens containing tulips and African violets. She also enjoyed playing Bingo, writing letters in her room, watching two birds named Jack and Jill in the aviary at Northridge, having coffee with family and friends, watching the Minnesota Twins, and embroidering pillow cases.
She cared for elderly relatives through the years and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Lola enjoyed her neighborhood friends and the birthday parties she attended with her neighborhood friends. She always remembered everyone's birthday with a card and a gift of money.
Survivors include three sisters, Dorothy McFarland and Marcella Radtke, Twin Brooks, SD; and Eleanor Steen and husband Jerome, Clinton, MN; three brothers, Willmar Radtke and wife Janice, Annandale, MN; Allen J. Radtke and Arthur G. Radtke and wife Judy, all of rural Twin Brooks, SD; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
