Leroy Martin Kellen was born in Madison, MN on January 30, 1944, to Albert and Alma (Anderson) Kellen. He was baptized in St. Michael's Catholic Church in Madison on February 6, 1944. In 1945 the Kellen family moved to Beardsley. As a young boy, he really enjoyed living on the farm. Beginning at age 7 Leroy attended school in Faribault, MN, so that his educational needs could be met. Following completion, he lived in Willmar for a short time and in 1986 moved to Ortonville and lived at Monarch Heights for the remainder of his life. He was an active participant in many activities and worked at DAC every day. He loved to work and was always willing to try new jobs!

Leroy had a great, fun-loving personality. He enjoyed the attention he received from staff and the visits he shared with his family. Although he had limited speech, he was very good at making his needs known! Leroy was a happy man, with a mischievous twinkle in his eyes, always ready to be the jokester. He was very social – he greatly enjoyed all outings, dancing, dogs, the circus, holidays, shopping, and camping. Most of all, he loved to eat out!

Leroy passed away on March 6, 2012. He lived to reach the age of 68 years.

Left with loving memories are his siblings: Beverly Sykora of Browns Valley, MN; Paul (Mary Ann) Kellen of Beardsley, MN; Arlene Bigalke of Wheaton, MN; Delores Thompson of Wheaton, MN; Carol (Orrel) Mesker of Ulen, MN; and Donald (Janet) Kellen of Beardsley, MN; his devoted sister-in-law Carol Jean Kellen; nieces and nephews; and the family of his heart – the staff and residents of Monarch Heights.

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Lavern, Arnold, Gordon, Albert, Jr., and Gerald; and his sisters: Shirley Montplaisir and Doris Kellen.
