Leonard Marihart

Funeral services for Leonard J. Marihart, age 94, of Graceville, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 15, 2013 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Graceville. Visitation is Sunday, April 14, from 5-7 p.m. at the Mundwiler and Larson Funeral Home in Graceville with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Consolidated Cemetery.

Leonard J. Marihart was born to Anton and Theresa (Muelbauer) Marihart on November 6, 1918 in the Graceville Hospital in Graceville, MN. He was baptized in the Holy Rosary Catholic Church on November 24, 1918. In 1935 he graduated from Graceville High School. Leonard entered the US Army in November of 1944, served in the European Theatre, and was honorably discharged in June of 1946. Returning home he resumed his life long career as a farmer.

Leonard and Dorothy Cauley were married on February 24, 1968, giving Leonard an instant family which included six children. All were equally blessed by this union.

Leonard was a lifelong member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Graceville where he served on the council, ushered for funerals, was appointed as a special Minister of the Eucharist, and gave of his time where needed. He was awarded the Bishop's Award for his commitment to his church. Leonard was also a member of the American Legion for 66 years.

Leonard found joy in farming, fishing and his faith. He loved his family and will be remembered for his kindness, gentleness, and patience.

Leonard died on April 10, 2013, at Grace Home in Graceville, having reached the age of 94.

Cherishing his memory are his step-children: Jeri (Floyd) Behrens of Dumont, MN; Angie (Roger) Nosbusch of Barry, MN; Richard (Steph) Cauley of Mankato, MN: Dennis (Alla) Cauley of Cheyenne, WY; Roger (Nancy) Cauley of Rosemont, MN; and Tom (Carol) Cauley of LaCrosse, WA; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy, on August 31, 2004; his granddaughter, Renea; his grandson, Shane; his brothers: Herman, Anton, Louis, and John; and his sisters: Agnes Hendricks, Ceil Marihart, Christine Marihart, Theresa Barslund, Mary Thorton, and Margaret Horner.
