Kenneth Wise

Funeral services for Mr. Kenneth Wise, age 88, of Milbank, will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2006, at the Central United Methodist Church in Milbank. The Reverend Mark Phillips and the Reverend DeVern Schwenn will officiate. Ken died on Saturday, February 18 2006, at the Milbank Area Hospital/Avera Health. Family members are asked to meet in the church heritage room by 1:30 p.m. Tuesday to attend services. The organist will be Linda Stengel and the soloist will be Jan Olsen. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Monday from 5-7 p.m. and in the church Tuesday one hour before services. Pallbearers will be Dean Parker, David Buri, Roger Reiners, Bill Meyers, Marv Hopewell, and Daryl Stengel. Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery.
Kenneth was born on February 28, 1917, in Alban Township, Grant County, SD, the son of George and Mary (Buri) Wise. He attended Alban #4 rural school and graduated from Milbank High School in 1936. Kenneth married Esther Loeschke on April 25, 1943, at the Alban Church. Following marriage they moved to the family farm which they later purchased and operated. They retired from farming in 1977. Kenneth worked for Dakota State Bank for approximately the next ten years in the position of Farm Consultant and salesman for crop hail and federal crop insurance.
He was a member of the Central United Methodist Church in Milbank. For a time he was a member of the administrative board and the finance committee. Kenneth was organist and pianist for twenty-five years in the Alban Evangelical and Methodist churches. He liked music and was very fond of Gospel music. In high school Kenneth won the local piano contest and was on the graduation program with his contest selections.
Surviving are his wife Esther, Milbank; two daughters, Rebecca Wise, Vadnais Heights, MN, and Laurie Kolstad and husband Kevin and granddaughter, Robin, New Ulm, MN.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ethel Wise and Gretchen Hanson, and brothers, Carl and Marwood Wise. For obituary and on-line registry, please visit www.emanuelpattersonfuneralhome.com.
