Judith "Judie" Schaffer

Judith “Judie” Schaffer, age 77, of Ortonville, MN, passed away on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at the Ortonville Area Health Services Hospital.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Congregational Church of Christ in Ortonville, MN. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025, at Mundwiler and Larson Funeral Home in Ortonville, MN, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the on Saturday. Pastor Lynn Thomas will officiate, and burial will take place at Mound Cemetery in Ortonville.

Judith Marie (Thomas) Schaffer was born on February 29, 1948, in Ortonville, MN, to Clarence J. and Verla (Witte) Thomas. She spent her formative years in Ortonville, developing a love for her community and the people within it.

After furthering her education in Crookston, MN, Judie became a Licensed Practical Nurse, a profession where she would touch countless lives over her renowned career. Upon returning to the Ortonville area, Judie devoted herself to serving in various healthcare facilities, providing compassionate care to those in need.

On November 28, 1970, Judie was united in marriage with Edward F. Schaffer at the United Congregational Church in Ortonville. Together, they were blessed with two children, Michelle and Greg.

Judie was a proud member of the United Congregational Church, where she actively participated in community services and gatherings, further enriching the lives of those around her. She also held a special place in her heart for the American Legion Women's Auxiliary, where her commitment to service and camaraderie grew.

Beyond her professional and community contributions, Judie found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life. An avid reader, she cherished her time with books, and her hands were often busy with crocheting and knitting. However, nothing brought Judie greater happiness than spending cherished moments with her grandchildren. She was a steadfast supporter of their pursuits, attending sports events, programs, and other extracurricular activities, ensuring they always felt her love and encouragement.

Left to cherish Judie’s memory are her husband of 54 years, Edward Schaffer of Ortonville, MN; daughter, Michelle (John) Johanson of Rushford, MN; son, Greg (Deborah) Schaffer of Lakeville, MN; six grandchildren: Connor Johanson (fiancé, Grace Heisz) of Sauk City, WI; Jacob Johanson (Carl Bailey-Lyons) of Holmen, WI; Abigail Johanson of Rushford, MN; Brenden Schaffer (Lily Olson) of Prior Lake, MN; Aiden Schaffer of Lakeville, MN; and Madelyn Schaffer of Lakeville, MN; great-granddaughter, Lainey Schaffer; sisters-in-law: LaRae Schaffer, and MaryAnn Schaffer; along with many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her sister, Barbara (Perry) Nelson; and brother-in-law, Thomas Schaffer.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be given to the Ortonville Area Health Services Hospital, Fairway View Neighborhoods, Ortonville Area Home Health Agency, or the Big Stone Area Health Care Foundation.
