John Roeder

Mundwiler Larson Funeral Home announces the death of John Roeder, age 81, of Ortonville. John passed away on August 3, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. Memorial services will be on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Ortonville. Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday. The service will be officiated by Pastor John Ragan; the burial will take place at a later date.

John Paul Roeder was born on December 12, 1930 to parents John and Olga (Zempel) Roeder in Artichoke Township, MN. He was baptized at his family farm in Thible Township, MN on October 25, 1933 and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ortonville. John attended rural country schools and District 2 in Ortonville.

On February 25, 1950, John enlisted with the United States Air Force and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on September 2, 1953. On July 6, 1956, John re-enlisted for another four-year term and served at the Deep Creek Air Station at Fairchild AFB in Washington as well as serving in France and Germany. John was again honorably discharged on April 1, 1960.

On April 4, 1970, John was united in marriage to Linda Gerber by Pastor Ralph Berggren. To this union, they were blessed with two children, Jodi and Scott.

John owned and operated John's Auto Service and Repair and the Phillips 66 Station in Ortonville for many years. He was also a foreman at the Big Stone Canning Factory.

John was a life member of the Big Stone Lake Area VFW Post #3964, having served as the Post Commander. John had many joys in his life; he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and visiting with friends and family. His hobbies included golf, bowling, horseshoes, and playing cards. He was a devoted sports fan, especially the MN teams, rarely missing a Twins or Vikings game.

John is survived by his wife, Lin Roeder, of Ortonville, MN; his children: Jodi (David) Talley of Sioux Falls and Scott (Jennifer) Roeder of Champlin, MN; grandchildren Jack and Isabela Talley of Sioux Falls; siblings: Edwin (Laura) Roeder of Ortonville, MN, Alfred (Donna) Roeder of Ortonville, MN, Lucille Thompson of Ortonville, MN, LaVerne Plantz of Viroqua, WI, Marcia (Roger) Zick of Ferguson, MO, Raymond (Kaye) Roeder of Ore City, TX and several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Olga Roeder and by his brother, Vernon, and sister, Delores.
