John Boyle

March 11, 1911 — July 15, 2004

John J. Boyle went to meet his Lord on Thursday, July 15, 2004. He was a resident at the Graceville Health Center in Graceville, MN for the past three years. He was born at Collis, MN on March 11, 1911 to Daniel and Johanna (O'Keefe) Boyle. He grew up in the Collis/Graceville area. During his years here on earth, John was a farmer, construction worker and police officer. He served in the United States Army as a medic from June of 1942 to December of 1945 in the Persian Gulf. He married Mabel R. Herznach November 9, 1968. They made their home in Graceville until John entered Grace Home.



John and Mabel were members of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He loved to fish and golf. John loved his animals. His favorite pets were his three parakeets, all named "Gus". John enjoyed horses. He even had a pet gazelle while in the army. John also enjoyed playing guitar and singing and listening to country music. One of John and Mabel's past times was playing cards with relatives and friends. At age 75, John shot a "hole-in-one" on the 9th hole at Graceville Golf Club. This accomplishment was a highlight of his latter years.



He is survived by his wife, Mabel; step-children, Mary (Jim) Bauer, Glen, David, Alan and Paul Herznach; one step brother, Donald (Gert) Krueger and their families and many nieces and nephews.



John was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Edward, Timothy and Lambert "Swede"; and his sisters, Catherine Boyle, Angie Lievens and Mary Smith.
