Jerry Lutkemeier

Jerry Lutkemeier, age 61, of Wilmot, SD, passed away on January 24, 2022, at Milbank Area Hospital – Avera Health.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 31, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Wilmot. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 30, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the church. Visitation will continue on Monday, one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Wilmot City Cemetery.

Officiating will be Rev. Ruth Clenindin and Rev. Kevin Veldhuisen. Musicians will be VaLynda Weller, organist and Anne Veldhuisen, vocalist. Casket bearers will be: Wayne Hopkins, Dale Madsen, Steve Johnson, Greg Madsen, Roger Butler, Alex Berndt, Todd Berndt, and Rick Ammann. Honorary bearers will be Jerry’s grandchildren: Benson, Harper, Hudson, and Baylor Lutkemeier.

Jerry Robert Lutkemeier was born on December 18, 1960, in Milbank, SD. He was the son of Robert LeRoy and Leta (Uhden) Lutkemeier. Jerry was a life-long resident of Wilmot (except for one year). He graduated from Wilmot High School. He was united in marriage with Denise Madsen on June 4, 1983, in Wilmot. Jerry and Denise were blessed with two children: Nathan and Whitney.

Jerry’s life-long career was in building construction. He served his community as a former city councilman and was the current Mayor of Wilmot. He was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church and was a Commissioned Ruling Elder in the Presbytery of South Dakota. Jerry loved his church and enjoyed preaching and sharing the work of the Presbytery.

Jerry was an avid outdoorsman. He LOVED COYOTE HUNTING! He adored his grandchildren and was a proud grandpa!

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 38 years, Denise of Wilmot, SD; his children: Nathan (Laura) Lutkemeier of Mapleton, ND; and Whitney Lutkemeier of Pierre, SD; three grandchildren: Benson, Harper, and Baylor; two brothers: James (Francis) Lutkemeier of Wilmot, SD; and Joel Lutkemeier of Wilmot, SD. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents: Robert and Leta; and one grandson, Hudson.
