Funeral Services for James Sellin, Sr., of Watertown, South Dakota, will be on Friday, December 16, 2011 at 10:30 AM at United Methodist Church in Ortonville, MN. Reverends Marlyn Kuper and Darrell Boe will be officiating. There will be visitation at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial, with Military Honors, will be at Mound Cemetery in Ortonville, Minnesota.
James Gene Sellin, Sr. was born on June 17, 1931, in Madison, MN to Paul and Minnie (Dallman) Sellin. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Ortonville High School in 1949. Following graduation, he entered the United States Air Force and served for eight years. Although he had wished to remain in the service, his father died and he was needed at home.
On March 15, 1952, Jim was united in marriage to Barbara Kitchens in Collinston, LA. To this union two children were born: James, Jr. and Debra.
Jim held a variety of jobs throughout his lifetime, but his favorite occupation was working as a civil servant at the Agassiz National Wildlife Refuge, operating and maintaining the machines.
Jim was gregarious and loved to visit with all people. His hobby was work!
Jim passed away on Monday, December 12, 2011, at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown, South Dakota, having reached the age of 80 years.
Jim's family is deeply appreciative of the loving care that Peggy Norton and her family provided him during his final years.
Left with his loving memory are Barbara Sellin of Ortonville; his children: James, Jr. of Fargo, North Dakota and Debra Haack of Annandale, Minnesota; his grandchildren: Thomas and John P. Haack; great grandchildren: Hannah, Jaden, and Liam; his sister, Vadnae (Ron) Kottke of Big Stone City, South Dakota; his brother, Lowell (Lenore) of Ortonville, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews;
Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
