Herbert Streich

February 15, 1928 — February 13, 2014

Herbert Streich, age 85, of Ortonville died February 13, 2014, at Northridge Residence.

Funeral services will be Monday, February 17, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ortonville. Pastor Dennis O'Neill will officiate. Burial will be at Mound Cemetery in Ortonville.

Visitation will be Sunday, February 16th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, at Mundwiler & Larson Funeral Home in Ortonville. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday.

Music will be provided by Janet O'Neill, organist; Alyssa Wakeman, flutist; and Paul Maatz, vocalist. Casket bearers will be: Richard Maatz, Gerald Streich, Donn Streich, Kenneth ERp, Charles Johnson, Craig Jerde, and Quentin Schultz.

Herbert Ervin Streich was born February 15, 1928, to Arthur and Agnes (Hiepler) Streich at Madison, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church Arena Township, Rural Madison. Herb grew up on a farm near Marietta, Minnesota and graduated from Marietta High School.

On October 29, 1954, Herb married Marilyn Maatz. He served in the US Army from 1955 to 1957, after which they farmed near Big Stone City, SD. They were blessed with 5 children. In 1989 they moved to Ortonville, Minnesota. Herb and Marilyn wintered at Casa del Sol Park, Donna Texas, 24 seasons.
Religion was an important part of Herb's life and he was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Ortonville, MN.

Herb served on many boards, including Big Stone Farmers Coop Elevator, Grant County Crop Improvement Association, 4-H leader, ASC committee, Grant County Zoning Board, school board, township supervisor and was a member of the Big Stone American Legion.
He was interested in and took part in many sports, playing basketball, softball, baseball, bowling and golf. Through the years he enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards, and spending time with his grandchildren. The family hosted an exchange student, Lavinia Corpuz, for a year

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marilyn; Children – Gregory (Jane) Streich, Big Stone City, South Dakota; Garry (Phyllis) Streich, Mankato, Minnesota; Sandra (Rod) Kongelf, Minot, North Dakota; Marsha (Vern) Wakeman, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and Galen (Annette) Streich, Brookings, South Dakota; Ten grandchildren – Leah (Brian) Holmes, Dupree, South Dakota; Laura Streich, Big Stone City, South Dakota; Jamie and Rachel Streich, Mankato, Minnesota; Erin and Jessica Kongelf, Minot, North Dakota; Nicole and Alyssa Wakeman, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Kamryn and Griffin Streich, Brookings, South Dakota; Sisters – Caroline Erp, Montevideo, Minnesota; Doreen Schultz, Revillo, South Dakota; Frieda Johnson, Revillo, South Dakota; and Elna (Doug) Jerde, Rochester, Minnesota.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Alvin and Gerhardt; brothers-in-law Warren Erp, Maurice Schultz, and George Johnson; sisters-in-law Grace Streich, Virginia Streich and Gladys Streich.
