Harry Loeschke

Funeral services for Harry W. Loeschke, age 89, of Milbank will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 10, 2005, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ortonville, MN. Vicar Ray Smith will officiate. Harry died on Thursday, October 6, 2005, in the Ortonville Hospital in Ortonville, MN. Family members are asked to meet in the church chapel by 9:30 a.m. Monday to attend services. The organist will be Linda Smith. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Sunday from 5-7 p.m. and in the church Monday one hour before services. Honorary pallbearers will be Vernon and Bert Longhenry; Hubert and Miranda Redepenning; Clara and Albert Lotthammer; Morris and Glenora Tietjen; Jerry and Alma Jorgenson, and Erna Cahill. Active pallbearers will be Gene Loeschke, Shoan Loeschke, Chad Loeschke, Doug Gulley, Kelly Peters, Mark Loeschke, Eugene Marohl, and Eddie Verhelst. His grandchildren and great grandchildren will form an honor guard. Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery.
Harry was born on May 4, 1916, in rural Vernon Township, Grant County, SD, the son of William A. and Anna (Fenner) Loeschke. He attended country school in Vernon Township. Harry was united in marriage to Lily Nitz at Town Walter Church on June 26, 1940. Following marriage, the couple farmed in Vernon Township. In 1978 they moved to Big Stone City. His wife Lily died on August 20, 2004. Harry was living at Park Place in Milbank prior to his death.
He loved to hunt and fish. Harry also enjoyed taking care of his fruit trees and flowers. He and Lily took many trips. They traveled to Norway, Canada, Mexico, and to many places in the U.S.
Survivors include three sons, Melvin Loeschke and wife, Florence, Ortonville, Kenneth Loeschke and wife Leanne, Rapid City; and Roger Loeschke and wife Ann, Milbank; seven grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Lillian Ninneman, Ortonville, and Annie Marohl, Appleton, MN; two sisters-in-law, Hertha Nitz, Madison, MN, and Ruth Loeschke, rural Milbank; and nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lily, four sisters, Clara, Alma, Hilda, and Alice; and two brothers, Karl and Earl. The Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home of Milbank is in charge of the arrangements.
