Gerald "Jerry" Bowers

Gerald Lee Bowers, age 79, of Twin Brooks, SD, died June 2, 2018, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 23, at 2:00 p.m. at Valley Baptist Church in Milbank.  Visitation will be held at the church, one hour before services on Saturday. Burial will be at Milbank City Cemetery immediately following the funeral service.

Gerald Lee Bowers was born on April 10, 1939, in Ortonville, MN.  He was the son of George and Thelma (Keeney) Bowers.  His family farmed in Kilborn Township, Grant County, South Dakota. He attended country school at Kilborn #2, from 1945-1953, and graduated from Corona High School in 1957.  After graduating, Gerald spent six years in the 740th National Guard in Milbank.  He was called to active duty for one year in 1961, during the Berlin Crisis.  He spent time working in Fort Carson, CO, from the fall of 1961, to the summer of 1962.

On September 28, 1963, Gerald was united in marriage with Jacqueline Jesser in Ortonville, MN.  Gerald lived and worked on the farm, in Kilborn Township, for 34 years.

Gerald loved to work and was willing to help anyone who needed it.  He played softball in his younger years, but mostly loved spending time with his family and friends.  Gerald was a member of the American Legion and served as an usher and on various boards and teams at Valley Baptist Church in Milbank.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Jackie; his children: Gary Bowers, Ginger Seehafer, and Gail Bowers; five grandchildren: Brent, Taylor, Caleb, Haeley, and Sawyer; and many other family members and friends.

Preceding Gerald in death are his parents; sisters: Evelyn and Alice; brother, Ken; and a brother in infancy.
