Gene Holtquist

Gene W. Holtquist, age 90, of Milbank, SD, passed away on December 12, 2022, in Sioux Falls, SD.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church in Milbank. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 19, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank. Visitation will continue at the church on Tuesday, one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Milbank City Cemetery.

Gene Wallace Holtquist was born on May 17, 1932, in Grant County, SD. He grew up on a farm outside of Milbank and attended country school.

On June 4, 1960, Gene married Betty Kasuske. Together, they were blessed with four children: Janelle, Tammie, Vicki, and Steven. They were married almost 42 years until her death on April 1, 2002. On June 26, 2004, Gene married Gladys Schultz (Reiners).

Gene was a life-long resident of the Milbank area. He farmed and milked cows for many years and on a century farm. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, traveling and playing cards. For years, he really loved coffee time with his friends at Zems’ Bakery.

Gene is survived by his wife, Gladys; daughters: Tammie (Jimmy) DeWald of Milbank, SD; and Vicki (Alan) Arndt of Ortonville, MN; step-children: Lori (Dave) Larson of Ortonville, MN; Jeff Schultz of Wichita, KS; and Diane Schultz of Big Stone City, SD; along with many nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; daughter, Janelle; and son, Steven.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Central United Methodist Sunday School and Milbank Hospital Dialysis.
