Faye Nelson, age 82, of Browns Valley, MN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 21, 2021, at her home.
Services for Faye will be held in July 2021.
Faye Ellen (Raw) Nelson was born on February 5, 1939, in Browns Valley, MN, to Robert and Mabel (Anthony) Raw. She attended school in Browns Valley and graduated high school with the Class of 1957.
On November 9, 1957, Faye was united in marriage with Gerald Nelson in Browns Valley. Faye and Gerald made a short move to Beardsley, MN, in 1962 and they lived there for four years. In 1966, they moved to Raytown, MO, where Faye worked as a cashier at Casio’s Grocery Store. The family moved back to Browns Valley in 1976 and made their permanent home.
Faye and Gerald owned and operated Traverse Café in Browns Valley for several years. She worked at Paulson Food Center for a few years and most recently, Faye worked as Head Cook at the Browns Valley school for 25 years.
Faye was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she participated in the church choir. She was also a member of the Browns Valley Community Choir. Faye enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and most of all, spending time with her children and grandchildren. After Gary passed away, Faye kept herself busy by enjoying concerts and hoedown parties with her widowed friends.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Lori Nelson of Kansas City, MO; Brian (Jill) Nelson of Browns Valley, MN; Cari (Greg) Haanen of Browns Valley, MN; and Julie Nelson of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren: Chris Maggard, Erin (Josh) Biel, Cara Maggard, Amanda Nelson, Whitney Haanen, Savanna Haanen, Reece Fuller, Jason (Rachel ) Peichowski, and Jackson (Kimberly) Piechowski; great-grandchildren: Freedom Maggard, Vaeya Sherman, Preston Biel, Ian Hance, and Letty Johnson; and brother, Donald Raw of Victor, NY.
Faye was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Gary Nelson in 2016.
