Dorothy Winge, age 76, of Wilmot, SD, died on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at Milbank Area Hospital.
Funeral services for Dorothy Winge will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 8, at First Presbyterian Church in Wilmot. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 7, at Zion Community Church in Wilmot. Visitation will continue from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Helgen Cemetery, rural Florence, SD.
Dorothy Winge was born on February 11, 1946, in Watertown, SD, to William and Pearl (Montney) Wartenbee. She grew up around South Shore, SD. She lived in Milwaukee, WI, the Sioux Falls area, and South Shore, before moving to Wilmot, where she has lived for the past 43 years.
Dorothy was married to Wendell Lohr and had a son James. She married Clayton Winge on June 14, 1975, in Florence, SD. They were blessed with two daughters: Kim and Kathy and a son: Tim. Dorothy worked as a housekeeper and worked at the Wilmot Care Center as a dietary aid for 25 years, until her failing health forced her retirement.
Dorothy was active in her community. She volunteered for the Wilmot Care Center Auxiliary. She was a member of Zion Community Church and she and Clayton were AWANA leaders for many years. As a Girl Scout leader, she guided a troop from kindergarten through their high school years. Dorothy enjoyed crafting, gardening, and was always willing to assist others. She was also very patriotic and loyal to her country. Dorothy’s family is especially appreciative of how she was able to entertain others by planning parties, setting elaborate tables, and preparing a lot of different dishes.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Clayton Winge of Wilmot; son, James (Jennifer) Lohr of Sioux Falls, SD; daughter, Kimberly (Jason) Veen of Big Stone City, SD; daughter, Kathy (Jason) Jurgens of Corona, SD; aunt, Millie (Nelson) Ransom of Stockholm, SD; grandchildren: Clayton, Brooklyn, Dylan, Dustin, Dayla, Troy, Wyatt, Brock; brother, Steve (Deb) Wartenbee; sisters: Joyce Kjosa, and Sally (Larry) Niewald; in-laws: Alice Moyer, Barb Tesch, Larry (Brenda) Winge, Jerry (Eileen) Winge, Geri Winge, Joyce Heim, Darlene (Vick) Saur, Sue (Bill) Welder, Royal (Becky) Sprung; many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents: William and Pearl Wartenbee; son, Timothy Winge; father-in-law, John Winge; mother-in-law, Doris Buising; step-father-in-law, Dale Buising; brothers-in-law: Wes Kjosa, Lavern Winge, Jim Winge, Clayton Moyer, Ed Hein, Hal Tesch; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Winge.
