Dawn Shelstad

Mundwiler Larson Funeral Home of Ortonville announces the death of Dawn Shelstad, age 87, of Ortonville. Dawn passed away on August 22, 2012 at Ortonville Area Health Services in Ortonville, MN. Services will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 11 A.M. at the Abiding Faith Lutheran Church in Ortonville, MN. Visitation will be on Friday, August 24 from 5-7:00 PM at Mundwiler ~ Larson Funeral Home in Ortonville. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday. Rev. Richard Larson will be officiating and burial will be at Mound Cemetery.

Dawn Johnson was born on September 11, 1924, to parents John and Clara (Pearson) Johnson in Akron Township, MN. She was baptized on September 27, 1924 and confirmed at the Swedish Lutheran Church in 1941. Dawn attended school until the 11th grade at Correll High School. She worked at Day's Cafe – Candy Kitchen in Appleton, MN.

On January 5, 1947, Dawn was united in marriage to Arthur Shelstad at the United Methodist Church Parsonage in Ortonville. To this union, they were blessed with 5 children. After their marriage, Dawn stayed home to raise her family and help with the farm.

Dawn loved spending time raising her family; she had a love of farming along side her husband. She enjoyed gardening, canning, baking and cooking.

Dawn is survived by her husband Arthur of Odessa; her children: Dennis of Odessa, Bonnie Anderson of Ortonville, Bradley of Ortonville, Beverly (James) Fredrickson of Reedsburg, WI and Randy (Renee) of Ortonville; grandchildren: Bobbie Jo (Steve) Oakes of Ortonville, Dawn (Darrick) Johanneck of Grove City, MN, Melissa (fiance Dave Kenney) Shelstad of Reedsburg, WI, Jeremiah (Genesis) Fredrickson of Baraboo, WI, Monique (Mike) Trickel of Reedsburg, WI, Benjamin (Sara) Shelstad of Ortonville, MN, Bryan (Ashley) Shelstad of Ortonville, Christina Shelstad of Ortonville, Jacob Shelstad of Ortonville, Daniel Shelstad of Ortonville, and Samuel Shelstad of Ortonville; great-grandchildren: Mersadie Packard, Johnathon Johanneck, Elizabeth Johanneck, Dani Oakes, Brooke Oakes, Aubrey Snyder, Hunter Trickel, Violett Fredrickson, Scarlett Fredrickson, Bocephus Shelstad and Cheyenne Shelstad; sisters: Joan Bremseth of Madison, MN and Yvonne (James) Lund of Odessa; sister-in-law Luverne Johnson of Alexandria, MN and many nieces and nephews.

Dawn is preceded in death by her parents Clara and John Johnson; brother Junior Johnson; sister Lois Johnson; daughter-in-law Diana Shelstad and son-in-law Boyd Anderson; brother-in-law Everett Bremseth; nephew Michael Lund.
