David Schultz, 77, of Revillo, SD, went to be with his Lord on July 26, 2024.
Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at Countryside Covenant Church near Milbank, SD.
David Terrance Schultz was born on August 3, 1946, in St. Paul, MN, to Clarence and Rosemarie (Wagner) Schultz. David grew up in St. Paul, Nassau, and Minneapolis. He graduated from Washburn high school in 1964. He joined the Navy in 1965 and served on the USS Saratoga, an aircraft carrier.
He was united in marriage with Judith Patricia Zwernik on December 30, 1967 in Minneapolis, MN. Judy became his helpmate and right hand in just about everything! (Okay, except for computer problems.) After their marriage they lived in Philadelphia while Dave served in the Navy.
The couple were blessed with two wonderful sons: Terry Jon Schultz and Jay Wagner Schultz. Then they made their home in Minneapolis, MN and Dave was employed by Western Airlines and later Delta Airlines. This allowed Dave, Judy, and the family to take many domestic and foreign trips to visit dear friends in other countries. They also owned a pizza parlor for a short time in Bayport, MN and lived in rural Wisconsin. They moved to Excelsior, MN where he and Judy owned and operated a landscaping and greenhouse business while still working at the airline. They moved to a farm outside of Waconia, MN in 1978, and carried on the landscaping business and airline job while Judy operated a daycare.
In 1981, they moved to Richfield, MN. During this time, he started a computer consulting business (self-taught), H.I.S. Systems. He retired early from Delta to pursue this new career. Later, he trained in computer forensics and switched the business name to Digital Forensic Investigations.
In 2013 Dave and Judy fulfilled a dream and moved to his father’s property in Revillo, SD. They built a new home, made wonderful friends, played cards, participated in church activities, politics and had many good times. He said he always felt like he was on vacation on his farm.
Judy was the creative force and Dave helped implement her ideas. They had so much fun planning parties and events. They even had a parade in Revillo! Other friends remember Judy’s book club meetings when she would frequently bring the book to life by acting it out and Dave would always participate. He may also have had to don certain costumes. They would do very elaborate things that all enjoyed. Dave enjoyed many hobbies: anything to do with trains; learning to pilot a boat with his son, Jay; building things; and electrical and plumbing – he could do it all. He enjoyed purchasing a fire truck, tractors and various equipment that he liked repairing (most of the time) AND helping people.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years and 7 months, Judy Schultz of Revillo, SD; two sons: Terry J. Schultz (Katherine) of Rochester, MN and Jay W. Schultz (Winnie) of Cape Coral, FL; grandchildren: Jerrick Mapa of Hollywood, CA; and Jomel Mapa of Renton, WA; two sisters: Mardi (Mike Rathbun) Calhoun of Ham Lake, MN; and Elizabeth (Steve) Schofield of Burnsville, MN; nephew Justin (Ora) Calhoun of Isanti, MN; great-nephew Kaysen Calhoun of Isanti, MN; step-niece G. Rathbun, special friends of the family: Mike, Wiesia, and Emma Long; best friend of 66 years Vince (Sandy) Beaudette of Victoria, MN; two grand dogs: Coral and Tucker, and many many friends. David is preceded in death by his parents: Clarence and Rosemarie Schultz.
