Dallas Schmeling of Twin Brooks, SD, passed away on May 1, 2026, at his farm, at the age of 80 years.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Milbank. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at the church on Wednesday, one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Milbank City Cemetery. Pastor Albert Meier will officiate.

Dallas Ray Schmeling was born on December 12, 1945, in Watertown, SD. He was the son of Glenn and Verona (Tulowetzke) Schmeling. Dallas grew up on the family farm near South Shore, SD. He attended school in South Shore and graduated from South Shore High School with the Class of 1964.
Dallas worked with his father on the family farm for several years. He met the love of his life, Kathleen Lowe, on June 1, 1967, on a blind date. They were united in marriage on December 27, 1969, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in South Shore.
Dallas and Kathy moved to Minneapolis, MN, and lived there for seven years. He worked in a warehouse for Super Valu. They returned to South Dakota and established their farm near Twin Brooks.
Dallas enjoyed farm life. He raised crops, beef cattle, hogs, and sheep. He took pride in his work and gave each animal loving care. He loved the beautiful sights that his farm provided and never took things for granted. Dallas also worked for 15 years for Milbank Insurance Company.
Dallas was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and served on the church council for 42 years. In recent years, Dallas was a member of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Milbank. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was excited to have a great-grandson arriving in August. He and Kathy enjoyed square dancing and sharing a delicious meal together.
Dallas Schmeling is survived by his wife, Kathy Schmeling of Twin Brooks, SD; three children: Dawn (Bryon) Dahle of Watertown, SD; Tara Jo Schmeling of Phoenix, AZ; and Jesse (Amy) Schmeling of Wisconsin; five grandchildren: Shayniah, Brianna, Darian, Mekailyn, and Dylan; three great-grandchildren: Alistair, Sterling, and Arie; and one brother, Ronald Schmeling of South Shore, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
Dallas was preceded in death by his parents: Glenn and Verona; and his brothers: Russell, Glen, Gaylen, Milford, and Dennis.
